 Deacon Don HelferFullSizeRender

Deacon Donald Russell Helfer, Jr. leads our congregation at Jerusalem Lutheran Church. Don is a Deacon in the Order of Saint Stephen Deacon of Maryland and a novice friar in the Order of Lutheran Franciscans.  Don has been married to Deacon Melissa Fleeger Helfer for thirteen years, and they have two beautiful children, Madalyn and Isaac.  He dedicates much of his time to the community as a hospice volunteer and an assistant Cub Scout leader when he’s not working at Jos. A. Bank Clothiers. Deacon Don also has been called to Trinity Lutheran Church Deer Park in both youth and family ministry as well as men’s ministry.  The Holy Spirit lead Don through Jerusalem’s doors in the Fall of 2001 where he felt welcomed into a caring community of fellow believers.  Over the years, Don’s life has been transformed into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.  He continues to move forward following the light of Christ in his life.  Deacon Don loves to meet people where they are in their journey of faith. Come meet Deacon Don and witness his passion for the Lord during our Sunday services!
